Google has decided not to launch its planned AI Studio app for Android and iOS, choosing instead to bring its software-building capabilities directly into the Gemini app. The announcement comes after the company previously introduced the mobile app at Google I/O 2026 as a way to help users build AI-powered prototypes while on the move.

Rather than releasing a separate application, Google says it will integrate these features into Gemini across both mobile and desktop platforms.

AI Studio App Plans Come to an End

During Google I/O 2026, the AI Studio app was introduced as a companion tool that would allow users to capture ideas on their phones and turn them into working software prototypes before reaching their desks. The app was intended to provide a dedicated mobile alternative to the existing AI Studio website.

However, Google has now confirmed that the standalone app will no longer be released.

The AI Studio team explained that, instead of asking users to install another application, the company wants software creation to happen naturally through everyday conversations with Gemini.

Strong Interest Despite Cancellation

Although the AI Studio app will not launch, Google revealed that more than 800,000 users had pre-ordered it across Google Play and the Apple App Store. According to the company, the strong response demonstrated significant interest in building software from mobile devices.

Despite canceling the app, Google indicated that the demand reinforces its decision to make these capabilities available within Gemini rather than through a separate download.

The company has also removed the app listings from both mobile app stores.

Gemini Becomes the Primary Experience

Google said it is partnering with the Gemini app team to deliver the planned AI Studio functionality directly within Gemini on both mobile and desktop.

Instead of switching between different applications, users will eventually be able to create and refine software ideas during their regular conversations with Gemini. The company has not shared a release timeline but said more information will be announced in the future.

AI Studio Website Will Continue

While the AI Studio app has been canceled, Google confirmed that the AI Studio website will continue to operate.

The web platform will remain available for developers, creators, and businesses that want to move from an idea to prompts and complete software projects. This means users can continue accessing AI Studio through their web browsers while Google develops the deeper Gemini integration.
