Gill’s innings produced the fastest double-century in men’s ODI cricket, while India’s successful chase became the second-highest in men’s ODI history.

Shubman Gill Sets a New ODI Record

Shubman Gill reached his double-century from just 117 balls, breaking Ishan Kishan’s previous record of 126 balls against Bangladesh in 2022.

Gill finished unbeaten on 223, with 26 fours and eight sixes. His score is also the third-highest individual total in men’s ODI cricket, behind Rohit Sharma’s 264 and Martin Guptill’s 237 not out. He also became only the second batter after Rohit Sharma to record multiple ODI double-centuries.

India Chase 406 Against West Indies

West Indies posted 405/7 after batting first, setting India a target of 406.

India reached 406/2 in 43.3 overs, completing the highest successful run chase in India’s ODI history and the second-highest successful chase in men’s ODI cricket. South Africa’s 438 against Australia in 2006 remains the highest successful chase.

Rohit Sharma played a major role alongside Shubman Gill, scoring 101 from 75 balls. The pair added 255 runs for the first wicket, providing the foundation for India’s chase.

Rohit’s century also took him beyond 12,000 ODI runs. He became the third Indian batter to reach the milestone after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

West Indies Post Their Highest ODI Total

West Indies produced a record total of 405/7, their highest score in men’s ODI cricket.

John Campbell scored 101 from 68 balls, captain Shai Hope made 104 from 94, and Amir Jangoo added 114 from 77. Hope and Jangoo shared a 182-run partnership for the third wicket.

The three centuries also made the West Indies innings only the sixth men’s ODI innings in which three batters from the same team have scored hundreds.

Five Centuries in One ODI

The Guwahati match produced another notable record.

Campbell, Hope and Jangoo scored centuries for West Indies, while Rohit and Shubman Gill reached three figures for India. The five centuries made it the first men’s ODI to feature five individual hundreds in a single match.

The two innings also produced a combined 811 runs, adding to the list of records from the match.

India Secure the ODI Series

India’s victory gave the team a 2-0 lead in the three-match series, securing the series with one match still to play. The third ODI is scheduled for October 3 in Chandigarh.

For West Indies, the defeat came despite their highest-ever ODI total. The team had reached 405/7 after producing three individual centuries, but India’s batting response proved enough to overhaul the target.
